Vortex
The Artwork:
It begins at the edges and it will not let you stay there. Sweeping strokes of violet, lilac, and pale gold circle inward, layer over layer, each ring pulling toward the small dark center where everything gathers and disappears. This is a hole — not an empty one, but a living one, breathing and turning, the kind that opens in a life without warning and asks to be looked into.
We spend so much effort avoiding the hole. The absence, the loss, the pull of the thing we cannot name. But this piece does not flinch from it, and it does not ask you to either. The spiral is not only descent; look again and the same motion that draws you down could just as easily be lifting you out. A vortex has two directions. What swallows can also release. The dark center is not the end of the movement — it is the still point the whole painting turns around.
There is a strange calm at the middle of what frightens us. Let this be a reminder that the hole is not only a place you fall — it is also a place you can look into and come back from, changed.
